One Quanta Base URL Across Eight SDK Paths

Platform engineeringEN25 reads

01 · One endpoint, several client conventions

Teams running sustained model workloads usually do not struggle with model selection first. They struggle with configuration drift. One service reads an environment variable, another receives a constructor option, and a third keeps its endpoint in a command-line configuration file. The result is inconsistent routing, difficult rollouts, and requests that quietly bypass the intended billing or governance path.

Quanta provides one API base address for supported workloads: the Quanta API endpoint. The practical goal is to configure that address once per client family, then keep model names, credentials, timeouts, and retry policies separate. This makes a rollout easier to audit and reduces surprises when teams add models such as Claude Sonnet 5.5, GPT-6 Astra, or Gemini 3.1 Pro.

02 · OpenAI-compatible SDKs use a base URL override

Most OpenAI SDKs expose a client option named base_url, or an equivalent setting with the same meaning. Set it when creating the client, or provide the matching environment variable if the SDK supports environment-based configuration. The important detail is scope: the override belongs to the client instance, not to the model name.

This pattern is especially useful for teams with multiple services. A shared configuration module can supply the Quanta endpoint and API key, while each application chooses its own model and request policy. Keep the endpoint free of accidental path duplication. If an SDK appends the expected API path automatically, provide only the service base address it expects.

  • › Centralize the endpoint and credential lookup.
  • › Pass the model separately for each workload.
  • › Log the selected provider path without exposing secret values.
  • › Test one real request before broadening the rollout.

03 · Anthropic clients separate endpoint and model settings

Anthropic SDKs commonly accept a base URL through a client constructor option. Configure that option alongside the API key, then select the requested model in each message call. Do not encode the model into the endpoint. This separation lets a team move a workload from Claude Haiku 4.5 to Claude Opus 5 without rewriting transport configuration.

For Claude Code, the same principle applies through its supported environment or configuration settings: identify the endpoint setting, set it at the profile or process level, and verify that the command is using the intended credentials. A team lead should document which settings are inherited by developers and which are local overrides.

04 · Gemini tooling may expose endpoint settings differently

Gemini clients and command-line tools do not all present the same configuration surface. Some expose an endpoint or host option directly; others rely on a transport, environment variable, or provider profile. Treat the endpoint as an explicit deployment setting rather than assuming that an OpenAI-style base_url name exists everywhere.

For Gemini CLI, establish a tested profile for the Quanta endpoint, then distribute that profile through the team’s normal configuration process. Check the effective configuration at runtime, because a global installation, shell variable, or project file can override the setting you intended to use.

05 · CLI rollout needs precedence rules

Command-line tools often combine system settings, user settings, project settings, environment variables, and command flags. Before a heavy-workload rollout, write down the precedence order for each tool. A predictable rule might be project configuration over user configuration, with an explicit command flag reserved for temporary testing.

Keep production and experimental profiles distinct. This prevents a developer from testing a new endpoint in a production shell, and it gives operations teams a clear place to inspect routing when usage changes unexpectedly. Codex, Claude Code, and Gemini CLI should each have a documented verification command or small test request.

06 · Validate routing, metering, and cache behavior

A successful response alone does not prove that configuration is complete. Confirm that the request reached Quanta, that the selected model is the intended one, and that usage appears under the expected balance. Quanta meters real tokens, with cache writes and cache reads priced separately, so observability should preserve enough request context to explain those categories without recording sensitive prompt content.

For teams with heavy, sustained workloads, Quanta is a practical consolidation point: one balance can cover Claude, GPT, Gemini, DeepSeek, Kimi, GLM, Qwen, Grok, and other supported models while clients retain their familiar SDK patterns. Open a Quanta account once the endpoint and credential policy have passed a small controlled test, then promote the configuration through your normal rollout stages.
